USES: Assists in the effective removal of infected (carious) dentine / tissue in the treatment of acute and chronic caries. Other attributes include the removal of stainable tissue and heavy natural discolouration in the restoration of pulpless
teeth, in endodontic treatment to assist in the complete removal of stainable tissue to support aseptic treatment, detection of demineralised carious enamel and root surfaces and disclosure of dental plaque.
CLINICAL PROCEDURE: Apply sufficient Caries Detector (1 or 2 drops, or slight excess) to the site for assessment. Allow stain time to penetrate infected (carious) dentine i.e. a few minutes. Rinse excess away and observe stained tissue. Reduce the infected dentine area by removing the stained tissue. Continue a detection and reduction program. Complete caries removal is achieved after a few repetitions. In cases of chronic decay, the staining front is often masked by heavy natural discolouration.
The discoloured area must be removed together with the stainable dentine to ensure complete removal of infection.
